Windows 11 Release Date & Windows 10 Upgrade Planning

Better Security and User Interface?

Microsoft recently announced its next version of its Windows desktop operating system. It’s no surprise that the new version is called Windows 11

Windows 11 is scheduled for release later this year (October), this represents the first major OS update in 6 years.

Windows 10 as one of the best Microsoft operating systems to this date, will continue to be supported until October 14th, 2025. This gives users and businesses plenty of time to evaluate Windows 11 features, user interface, application compatibilities, and security for their organizations before planning for a large-scale upgrade or replacement of their Windows 10 machines.

Windows 11 Release Date: October 5, 2021

Windows 10 End-of-life: October 14th, 2025

Planning the Move to Windows 11

In our experience when upgrading to a new release of Windows Operating Systems there are two main concerns:

  • User Learning Curve: The user experience of the new user interface – Plan ahead to let all your employees learn how to navigate the new user interface.
  • Software Compatibility: Applications compatibilities. Most importantly the Line of Business software compatibility. Ask your software vendors about when their products will be fully tested and ready for the new Windows operating system.

Depending on how quickly you plan to move to the new OS, these concerns could have a different level of impact on your operational productivity.

Our general recommendation is to plan the upgrade to make sure to minimize compatibility issues and user learning curve. Compatibility issues are usually becoming less of an issue 1 year after the OS release.

Windows 11 New Features

Other than a new user interface, Windows 11 new features include Widgets, Native Android Apps, fully Teams integration into Windows, a better interface for creating the virtual desktops.
